Help shape Edinburgh’s final visitor levy scheme

The City of Edinburgh Council has opened a fresh public consultation to hear opinions from the local community and businesses about a possible tourism tax in the area.

Visitors, businesses, and locals are urged to weigh in on the final plans to create more than £100 million in tourism revenue for the city by 2030.

A charge of five percent on overnight stays, up to a maximum of seven nights, will be levied under the ‘tourist tax, which the council is calling the visitor levy scheme.

Views are being requested regarding possible exemptions from the levy, what kinds of accommodation  should be subject to it, and how the funds earned should be put toward enhancing Edinburgh.

Open sessions for local stakeholders will include public drop-ins, and targeted meetings with various industry groups.
