The Great Edinburgh Beer Duty scandal: boiling the wort and cooking the book

Edinburgh became famous across the world in the first half of the 20^th century as a city of brewing., but less well known is that at the same time it (and specifically, the Pleasance) became infamous as the epicentre of what was then the country’s largest ever duty fraud.

This is the story of Edinburgh United Breweries.
