Riddle’s Court is a historic jewel in Edinburgh’s Old Town and a major conservation and interpretation project led by Scottish Historic Buildings Trust. Hidden until recently, it is a beautiful and atmospheric building. A unique venue for exceptional events and spectacular entertaining.
From an aristocrat’s residence and hosting royal banquets in the 16th century to the 19th century Victorian interventions for the dire slum conditions, Riddle’s Court has seen a menagerie of figures and changes over its 400 year history. We still have a lot of reminders of these stories in the fabric of the building, including the ornate painted and plaster ceilings and the striking external staircase.
Riddle’s Court is currently run by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust who restored the building in 2015-2017 and has since then hosted public learning programmes, a range of private events and weddings, and has a beautiful onsite apartment where you can stay right in the heart of its history.
We’re not open for in-person visits this year, but please pause for a moment and take a virtual tour here or enjoy a personal guided video tour below from SHBT Chief Executive Una Richards.
