West Princes Street Gardens and The Quaich Project Joint Statement

POSTED ON December 13, 2019

The Cockburn Association together with the Old Town Community Council, New Town & Broughton Community Council, West End Community Council and Tollcross Community Council have agreed a joint statement on the Ross Development Trust’s The Quaich Project in West Princes Street Gardens.

The four Community Councils and the Cockburn support the improvement of specific park facilities in keeping with the use of the gardens as a quiet space for enjoyment and relaxation, and in scale with the layout of the site. We do not support the transformation of the Gardens into a commercial entertainment venue, involving access restriction and noise pollution disturbance.

The case for the demolition of the existing Ross Bandstand still needs to be made. The lack of any business plan or indication of scale and number of events and activities is a significant gap.
