Timothy Pont – Scotland’s first map-maker

16 February 2023

The Pont manuscript maps are one of Scotland’s greatest historical and geographical treasures. They are the first detailed survey of the Scottish landscape, the first time Scotland was mapped comprehensively, and the first time many Scottish settlements and places ever appeared on the map.

Commemorating our Treasures Display, this in-person talk by Map Curator, Chris Fleet, examines the work of Timothy Pont, and why his maps continue to fascinate and inspire us today.
