Celebrating 60 Years of Miss Jean Brodie

Tuesday 5th October 2021 from 5-6pm on Zoom

Muriel Spark’s classic novel, ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ was published 60 years ago on 5 October 1961, and it would become iconic in the public imagination. Celebrate this milestone with a free talk from the National Library of Scotland.

The novel’s title character, ‘Miss Brodie’, was inspired by Spark’s teacher, Christina Kay, at James Gillespie’s School. Norma Allan, a former Gillespie student herself, will delve into the social history behind the myth, as she did in her recent book, ‘Box Hats and Blue Stockings: the Golden Era of the Gillespie Girls’.

The talk will take place on Zoom. More information and booking details at the link below.
